Eriador
  Hobbiton
Hobbiton is one of the chief villages of the Shire, and home to a multitude of hungry, little hairy-footed hobbits! The Shire was founded long ago by the brothers Marcho and Blanco, and is indeed younger than Bree.

  Bree
This is the town with the oldest hobbit population west of the Misty Mountains. The Men from here are known to have rural plant names like Harry Goatleaf of Barliman Butterbur. Here also resides the Prancing Pony, a famous inn driven by the Butterbur family.
5092/8/05 11:57 am
  The Old Forest
The Old Forest is one of the oldest forests of the world, originally part of Fangorn in the south. During the reign of Númenor, the forest was viciously cut down for the production of boats and ships, and soon only Fangorn and the Old Forest was left.

  Weathertop
This was once the legendary watchtower of Amon Sûl, that held one of the Palantíri and marked where the borders of Arthedain, Rhudaur and Cardolan was. Eventually it was overrun by the Witchking and destroyed.

The Elves
  Rivendell
Founded shortly after the fall of Eregion and Ost-in-Edhil, this is the last free land of the Noldor. Here, Lord Elrond Peredhel has gathered the remaining Lords of the Noldor in what's called "the Last Homely House".
9622/8/05 11:36 am
  Lindon
Lindon, consisting of Harlond, Forlond and Mithlond, was called Ossiriand by its inhabitants in the First Age. It was the only part of Beleriand to survive the War of Wrath, and now it is the last thing the Elves of the northern world see when they leave Middle-earth. Lindon is ruled by Círdan the Shipwright.
21412/17/04 4:37 pm
  Lórien
Lórien, the land named for Irmo, the Vala of dreams in Valinor, is ruled by Lord Celeborn, the wisest of the Elves left in Middle-earth, and is rumored to be wiser than Elrond Peredhel himself. The lands of Lórien include the rivers Silverlode and Nimrodel, and all the lands down to the fields of Celebrant and the plains from the river Limlit and north to the forest of Lothlórien, where the remaining Eldar of Lórien reside with their Lord Celeborn and Lady Galadriel.
224512/3/04 2:36 pm
  Caras Galadhon
The capital city of Lórien, and the home of Celeborn and Galadriel. It is situated in the northern part of the forest, between the rivers Celebrant and Anduin. This is the only fortress of the Galadhrim, and is protected by a moat and tall, strong walls. Though extremely few know about it, the Eldarin fortress is protected by Galadriel's power combined with that of the ring Nenya.

The Dwarves
  Mines of Moria
Khazad-dûm was the former capital of the Dwarves of Middle-earth. As the ancestral home to Durin's Folk, the biggest clan of Dwarves, it had the strongest army of Dwarves in Endor. Also, the deep mines under Caradhras is the only place you can find mithril, the true-silver that is held to be the toughest substance in all of Arda.
46512/3/04 2:36 pm
  The Lonely Mountain
After the fall of Moria to the Balrog, the dwarves of Durin's folk removed to the Grey Mountains, and from there to Erebor when they were chased away by the cold-drakes of the Mountains. Again, in the latter half of the Third Age, the last great dragon, Smaug, vanquished the Dwarves of Erebor and Men of Dale. After Smaug was defeated the Dwarves came back and flourished again under Dáin Ironfoot as the new King under the Mountain.
1461/20/05 10:29 pm
  The Iron Hills
The ruddy hills which was one of two locations the Dwarves of Durin's Folk removed to after the fall of the Grey Mountains. Known for its vast iron ores and named for their red color, this was the main kingdom of the Dwarves in the North after Erebor was abandoned. Here ruled Dáin for long years before the Battle of the Five Armies.

The Wizards
  Isengard
When Númenor fell and the Elendili came to the shores of Middle-earth, the Seakings; Elendil, Isildur and Anárion, built many fortresses. One of them was situated in what would be known as Nan Curunír, "Valley of Wizardry". The Seakings built the tower Orthanc, and later it was gifted to Saruman the White, in his days of glory, and when he still did not know the dark paths of Sauron's mind. Saruman built a wall around it, and currently, during the War of the Ring, he hewed all of Isengard's trees to fuel his furnaces. It was hollowed by enormous caverns and his machinery and smoke was heard and seen from quite a distance.
012/3/04 2:36 pm
  Rhosgobel
As the Seakings Elendil, Isildur and Anárion came to Middle-earth after the Downfall of Númenor they built many fortresses throughout the lands. One such as those was Rhosgobel, as it would later be known. It lies on the edge of the Mirkwood forest, and is currently the residence of Radagast the Brown, but the Elves know him s Aiwendil.

Rohan
  Edoras
When the King's throne was removed from Aldburg, Edoras was where it moved. Eorl the Young started the construction of Meduseld, the Golden Hall of Edoras. Here, king Théoden has the base of his éored, and a large portion of the Rohirric army. Edoras and the villages around it hold about one and a half thousand Riders.

  Helm's Deep
Hornburg, the castle hid in the mountains, is named for the legendary hero Helm, who was besieged by the Dunlendings in Hornburg. Helm's Deep consists of the Hornburg, another fortress built by the Gondorian Seakings late in the Second Age. The deep valley is defended by great dike that runs across the valley. Deeper in you'll find the great wall that protects Hornburg and the caves that run through the Mountains, where many men can hold out for days with supplies. The biggest of these caves is Aglarond, the Glittering Caves, which has only one entrance through Hornburg.
012/3/04 2:36 pm
  Dunharrow
Far up in the White Mountains lies Dunharrow, one of the fortresses built by the original mountain'dwelling folk that lived there before the Rohirrim came to Calenardhon. To get to Dunharrow a man must walk up steep paths to a protective plateau with room for many men. It is used as a mountain refuge by the Rohirrim, and just a few soldiers can protect it for a long time, and a host of archers can simply not be taken by force in Dunharrow.

  Plains of Rohan
The wide, green plains that make out most of Rohan. The fields stretche from Anórien north of Minas Tirith and west to the Gap of Rohan and the river Isen. Almost all the Riders of Rohan live in spread-out villages all over the lands of Calenardhon, therefore a gathering can take very long a time.

Gondor
  Minas Tirith
Moderator: Silme
When Númenor fell, and Isildur and Anárion came to the future lands of Gondor, they divided the lands in two. Isildur got the eastern part, and Anárion got the western. There he built the fortress Minas Anor, Tower of the Sun, and his people inhabited the lands of Anórien to the north and south. Later, after Minas Ithil was taken, Minas Anor was renamed Minas Tirith, the Tower of Guard, that watched over Mordor.

  Ithilien
Moderator: Silme
When Númenor fell and Isildur came to Middle-earth, he and his brother Anárion shared Gondor with eachother. Isildur took the eastern half, where he built his fortress, Minas Ithil. To the north and south he named the lush woodlands Ithilien, the Moonland, where many of his folk settled. In the time of the War of the Ring the black uruks of Mordor had taken Ithilien and nobody lived there anymore. Faramir, a captain of Gondor, and his rangers hunted orcs and malicious Men of the South and East. But no matter what foul critters roamed through Ithilien, it never lost its stunning beauty.

  Osgiliath
Moderator: Silme
Osgiliath, the Citadel of the Stars, was the capital city of Gondor in ancient times. Here, Isildur and Anárion ruled together in peace, and all the Kings of Gondor had their seat here. In the latter years of the Third Age the throne of Gondor was moved to Minas Tirith, and the city fell in ruin. After the plague that ravaged Gondor had broken the people of Osgiliath they all moved to Minas Tirith, their new capital. In the end, Mordor took Osgiliath, but it was retaken in good time by Boromir, the son of the Steward Denethor II.

  Provinces of Gondor
Moderator: Silme
The southern provinces of Gondor include Belfalas, Pelargir, Dol Amroth, Anfalas, Lossarnach, Lamedon and Andrast. Most of the people living there are farmers, hunters and fishermen, but a good lot of them are soldiers in the army of Gondor, especially those of Pelargir and Dol Amroth.

The Misty Mountains
  Caradhras
By men it's called Redhorn, by elves Caradhras and to the Dwarves it's called Barazinbar. In the roots of this mountain you can find the only ore of the substance known and desired by every lord in Middle-earth: Truesilver, Mithril. The Dwarves of Dwarrowdelf dug under Baraz for it, and for that they paid the highest price: Their lives and their kingdom fell to the Balrog they awoke in the depths. The Redhorn Gate is also open to travelers at any time during the year. The Fellowship used it when the Misty Mountains were blocked to them.
012/3/04 2:36 pm
  The Mountain Range
The Misty Mountains stretch from the Gap of Rohan and northward up to the Mountains of Angmar. The treacherous paths in the mountains change from time to time. Some are blocked, some are gone, some are full of goblins and trolls of the worst kinds. Therefore, unless you have a guide that has passed over the mountains before, you shouldn't travel the mountain passes at all.
012/3/04 2:36 pm
  Mt. Gundabad
Once a flourishing Dwarven kingdom, it was abandoned for Dwarrowdelf, Moria, before the First Age. The Goblins of the Misty Mountains, the Mountains of Angmar, and all of the North, gathered here and this was their capital. Lying in the gore of the Mountains of Angmar and the Misty Mountains, it was a natural gathering point for the wicked Creatures of Sauron. In the Battle of Five Armies almost every Goblin in the horde was slain, and Mount Gundabad was almost abandoned.
1186/9/04 1:47 pm
  Goblin Tunnels
Deep under the Misty Mountains ran the tunnels and secret gates of the Goblin host. Here they had their halls and chambers where they fed on those miserable creatures they could find. Also, Gollum spent several hundred years down there, feeding on the Goblins, and the fish that lived in the waters by the roots of the mountain.

Mordor
  Morannon
In Gondor's days of glory they built many fortresses and towers to keep an eye on Mordor. The two towers they built by the valley Udûn were called the Towers of the Teeth. After the great Plague struck Gondor they retreated from the two towers and they fell into ruin. When Sauron saw that the towers had been abandoned he took them as his own. He repaired them and made a vast gate between them. The gate was called Morannon by the Eldar. By the Men of Gondor it was named "The Black Gate".

  Dol Guldur
Moderator: Aryndil Ciryatan
Dol Guldur was called Amon Lanc (Naked Hill), because no trees grew on its summit. In the Third age Sauron made a stronghold there, and it got the name Dol Guldur (Hill of Sorcery).

Umbar and the Bay of Umbar, the coastlands, is quite rockey with cliffs. It was importent to Gondor because it was there Ar-Pharazon had landed and humbled the might of Sauron, as remembered with pride in Gondor, but also because of the hold upon the evil in Haradwaith it gave.
